Rubber and Silk Collection 2000

These images form part of a collection of clothes designed and made in 2000 during my 2nd year at Central Saint Martins whilst studying for my BA in Fashion Design with Marketing. This was 15 years ago! The clothes are made from a combination of Rubber and Silks using a mixture of gluing and sewing. I loved working with colourful rubber and combining it with these amazingly rich and vibrant silks and organzas. With a lot of persevearance, the final pieces held together really well despite the fact that from a technical engineering point of view these fabrics have completely different qualities and are not designed to work together. My fascination with textiles and the desire to experiment with new materials was behind my going against the grain to combine such opposing fabrics. The photoshoot took place near Camden Town and there is the distinct possibility that in my early days of digital editing I may have over Photoshopped a little!
